SPEAKING
SPEAKING
I regularly give talks and workshops to schools, as well as public and private organisations on my research. Public engagement with science is something I am passionate about, and I have spoken at a number of places including the Royal Geographic Society, the British Academy, TikTok, and the Welsh National Assembly.
I also frequently speak at education conferences aimed at senior leaders and teachers. For example, I have recently spoken at RSHE for Schools (It Happens Education; Royal High School, Bath; 2025), ResearchEd (Bournmouth; 2025) and the G30 schools summit (2024).
For schools I usually offer three types of talks or workshops which can be tailed for students, staff or parents:
Adolescent brain and social development
Why are adolescent mental health problems rising?
The role of schools (and school-based interventions) in adolescent mental health
CONSULTING
I provide consulting to schools and external organisations, in two broad areas:
Education and wellbeing consulting for schools:
I help schools to evaluate how their school practices impact educational and wellbeing outcomes, and to help review and advise on their wellbeing provision. I also enjoy working with schools on how they might best be able to talk to students about mental health and what intervention approaches are best supported by the current evidence. My approach is thoughtful and considered with the goal to help each child realise their potential, to feel autonomous, competent and integrated in their school environment.
For example, you can read, and listen, about some of the work I am currently doing with Winchester College here.
Behavioural science and statistical consulting:
I also provide consulting services for external organisations, and policy. I have expertise in the design and evaluation of randomised controlled trials (especially in school contexts), survey design and analysis and longitudinal modelling. I also have significant experience conducting work with clear policy implications (e.g., around COVID-19 and school-based interventions for mental health). I have previously advised or worked with the Department for Education, the Home Office, Public Health Wales, London Councils, and various other public and private organisations.
